Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has inaugurated a campaign committee to coordinate efforts towards the re-election of Senator Lere Oyewumi, who represents Osun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Adeleke, who was represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, inaugurated the committee on Thursday, describing Oyewumi, the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, as a responsible lawmaker whose performance had brought pride to the state.
The governor urged members of the committee to demonstrate total commitment and loyalty to the Accord Party’s campaign, expressing confidence in Oyewumi’s chances ahead of the January 16, 2027 election.
“Senator Oyewumi is a responsible person, and we are proud of what he is doing in Osun West. We are calling on our people to re-elect him come January 16, 2027,” Adeleke said.
He further charged members of the committee to work diligently towards securing victory for the senator.
“There is nothing like 99.9 per cent loyalty. Your loyalty should be 100 per cent,” the governor added.
In his acceptance remarks, Oyewumi expressed appreciation to Adeleke for his leadership, saying the governor’s political standing had provided an advantage for Accord Party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The senator described Adeleke as a pathfinder, adding that the governor’s re-election reflected the confidence Osun residents had in his administration.
“Adeleke is a pathfinder, and his re-election has shown that Osun people love him, and that love will translate to victory for all Accord Party candidates in the general election,” he said.
Reflecting on his three-and-a-half years in the Senate, Oyewumi said the experience had strengthened his capacity to serve his constituents, promising to consolidate on his achievements if re-elected.
“I am more prepared, more equipped and more determined to give my best to every community in Osun West Senatorial District,” he said.
He pledged to pursue further development across the district, listing improved roads, schools, healthcare facilities, access to clean water and solar-powered streetlights among his priorities.
Oyewumi also promised to expand empowerment opportunities for students, artisans, market women, farmers and elderly residents, assuring constituents that their needs would remain central to his legislative agenda.
Recalling his 2023 election campaign, the senator said his victory, despite his inability to provide financial inducements to voters, remained a source of encouragement to continue serving the people.
Earlier, the Director-General of the campaign committee, Adesoye Oyetunde, expressed confidence in the senator’s record, saying he had delivered projects and interventions across the senatorial district.
According to Oyetunde, Oyewumi had facilitated road projects in eight of the district’s 10 local government areas, while construction projects had been flagged off in the remaining two.
He also claimed that the senator had facilitated classroom construction across the district, alongside interventions in healthcare, agricultural support and other areas of community development.
Oyetunde expressed optimism that Oyewumi would build on the reported achievements if given another mandate in the Senate.
